JULY 2017

Had enough of meat during raya.

Back to Gemas to nursing dad. Continue practising my centipede stitching and it was so addictive. Dad feet got wound due to his diabetes. Brought him to clinic and took care of his wound, but he was so stubborn and never take care of his diet. I made him promise to eat his medicine on time. I knew now where my stubbornness came from:P

Back to KL with many pending job plus the preparation for Jesselton Artisan Market on 22nd & 23rd July at Kota Kinabalu. Will be having two slots of workshop too, DIY notebook & Coptic Stitch.

Squeeze my time to help the architect firm to compile an architecture portfolio for an exhibition using Japanese Stitch.

Will be having 2 slots of workshop in Petrosains, KLCC tentatively on 02 & 16 November with a very minimal cost. Stay tune.

I am so glad that the cafe; Soul Sac been open just a few doors from my studio. I love the ambience and the food, so nice as a hidden place where I can do lots of thinking and reflect.

Breakfast at home. Arissa said the last pancake I made for her was like 5 years ago. Oh dear where all the time has gone????

Syawal was not over. Went for open house at Layli place.

Having open studio for raya and invited close friend. It was nice to have all the peoples that have been giving so much support through out my career and life. There are many more and I wish I could invite everyone but...

Last minute request to create an elephant book using Japanese Stitch.

Coptic binding job for The Alphabet Press.

I found a chapati place at Jalan Haji Eusoff, where most of the people came is a Punjabi, gem discovery.

Making more books for Jesselton Artisan Market on 22nd & 23rd July at Kota Kinabalu.

This client contacted me end of last year to go through his collection of books, perhaps I could help him to enhance the aesthetic, plus restore some of the soft cover and create a new design on hard cover. More like restoration but on new book. What a strange request but I have a good impression of him still a little bit scared of his high expectation. Doing his job in-between many of my others job like a breakaway from monotonous. This is the first book I made for him on fabric cover with silkscreen printing of gold ink. Not the job where I gain profit but I appreciate the process to be able to experimenting on different medium.. I am not sure where this going to lead me, but the experience at the end of it will be priceless.

JUNE 2017

Went for a Plant Colours Workshop by My Cup of Tea Time which is really exciting. Brought along Arissa, Syamil and Tasha. Very exciting to see the process of making a natural colours from flower mostly. Very interesting how nature can be so beautiful with unpredictable brilliant result.

Silkscreen Printing on Raya Card..when you want to slow down but there are always an exciting job knocking the door. Collaboration project with Antalis, I don't do much design job nowadays but when it involved craft design, I definitely can't resist to accept so that I can experimenting. Get to know them through my workshop at Kinokuniya. They interested in my illustration style and asking if I am interested to do a collaboration on Raya's card and angpow packet. I am please with the result.

I do not take many job during Ramadan, but seemed my weekend mostly fully occupied. This is Macrame Plant Hanger Workshop at Setia Eco Glades.

I received two invitation to held a Raya workshop at Publika. This year I need to decline the invitation from Publika and only did two workshop with Big Independent grocer. Teaching quilling card raya & ketupat. Just 2-3 hours session, and the feedback was overwhelming.

Excited to receive the actual printed version of raya card and angpow packet collaboration with Antalis.

When I had long day of book binding, I always take a break by doing silkscreen printing. I love the unexpected result and never plan what I am going to do, just drown and embrace the process with no guideline. It's so satisfying:)

Fathers Day'sa Workshop at Setia Alam Club.

I love this two to the moon and back. Very difficult to capture a decent photo of them both. They have grown up with a totally different and very strong character. I just wish them to be happy and I will support whatever path they going to choose.

Last Job before raya. These are job from famous baker Mrs Pink Spatula / Kak Nur. Job task to compile her 3 of Victoria Classics's magazines into one booklet. After all the adjustment this was the result, and she quite happy with the outcome.

Back to my happy home for raya.

Penang Trip

I am driving alone to Ipoh to fetch my good friend, Lina before heading up to Penang. Been planning for the trip to replenish some stock at China House, I76 The Shop and Bon Ton. The next trip to Penang only going to be in August.

I always love the small break in every trip to Penang. I will repeat doing the same thing, going to the same makan place, and wondering around, indulge myself with inspiration. George Town is one of my favourite place to stay.

I stayed at my friend Guest House at Lebuh Noordin, and cancelled my booking at one of the guest house at Love Lane, long story and I shouldn't take the risk by staying at the place I not familiar with. I am not so picky about the place I will sleep but it must have white bed sheet and attach bathroom, end of story.

Here is my routine & tips whenever in Penang:
  1. Prefer to stay at George Town, all are within walking distance.
  2. Breakfast usually at Mug Shot, they serve the best Bagel and my favourite is Bagel with Salmon and Cream Cheese, and latte is the best.
  3. Breakfast alternative will be at Woodland, they serve delicious Indian vegetarian food.
  4. I normally will pay a visit and check my stock at Ren I Teng and Tropical Spice Garden too.
  5. Maju Deen Nasi Kandar in Lebuh Noordin is the best for dinner
  6. Jawi Cafe Gallery at Armenien Street serve the best local flavour and was easy to just dropby whenever I send some stock at Bon Ton The Shop.
  7. China House serves the best cakes, they spoilt me with galore of cake choices. Their quiche is the best I've ever tasted after the cafe in Wellington.
  8. Walking enjoying the street art is the way to hit my 10,000 steps after all the eating.
  9. There was a nice small park at Armenien Street that I enjoy sitting, it was a gem.
  10. Always make sure travel with the right buddy and company.
